Who We Are
Toxic Nation is a campaign of Environmental Defence, a national environmental group that protects the environment and human health.
Our Mission
Environmental Defence protects the environment and human health. We research. We educate. We go to court when we have to. All in order to ensure clean air, safe food and thriving ecosystems. Nationwide.
What We Do
Greening Cities
Canada's urban centres are growing rapidly, often at the expense of the environment. The quality of urban life depends on our ability to protect our air, water and land. Environmental Defence is spurring the creation of greener, healthier, more liveable communities by fighting to limit urban sprawl, and by fostering community stewardship of urban natural resources.
Protecting People
Every day our bodies absorb a different complex of toxic contaminants. Environmental Defence improves and safeguards human health by reducing our exposure to these pollutants. We target key sources: industrial emission into air, water and land; agricultural practices that increase toxics in food; and everyday products that contain harmful chemicals.
Saving Species
Canada is losing species at an unprecedented rate. Environmental Defence ensures species at risk - and the habitats they depend on - are protected and recovered. We initiate educational projects to draw people closer to nature and foster greater respect for all living things.
