What Environmental Defence is Doing

Environmental Defence is letting Canadians know the scoop on toxic chemicals and their health, because we believe information is a powerful tool for achieving healthier people and a healthier environment. We’re letting you know how chemicals get into the environment and into our bodies, what the health impacts can be, and which chemicals and products to watch out for, so that you can make informed decisions about what you choose to buy and use.

We have conducted two studies on the pollution in Canadians. In the first study we tested 11 adults from across Canada for 88 chemicals in their bodies. In our latest study, we tested children, parents and grandparents from five Canadian families for 68 chemicals. The results from both studies show that Canadians from coast to coast are carrying the burden of toxic chemicals in their bodies. We are using these test results to urge the government to bring the regulation of toxic chemicals up to international standards, because Canadians deserve the highest level of protection for their health and safety.
