The Problem
Canada holds over 20 per cent of the world’s surface freshwater in rivers, streams, wetlands, and the Great Lakes. These freshwater ecosystems provide drinking water for millions of people, support billion-dollar economies, and provide habitat for thousands of species. But they are facing numerous threats—including climate change, pollution, and land use changes.
The Solution
To protect human health, the environment, and the economy, we have to keep our waters clean and safe. That means governments need to take action and businesses need to change their practices in order to safeguard Canadian waterways.
