Ad Exposes Truth about Canada's Dirty Tar Sands

Environmental Defence, and its partners ForestEthics and the Natural Resources Defense Council, are reaching out to U.S. Governors to expose the truth about Canada's dirty tar sands.

One week after U.S. mayors expressed concern about the environmental impacts of the tar sands, the environmental groups are asking Premier Ed Stelmach of Alberta and Premier Brad Wall of Saskatchewan for action to clean up the tar sands. Premiers Stelmach and Wall are attending the Western Governors’ Association meeting in Wyoming, which runs from June 29 to July 1.

The groups sent an open letter to the 22 Governors of the Western Governors’ Association, as well as to the Premiers of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba who are also invited to attend the meeting. The letter asks the Governors to raise global warming and wildlife corridor concerns with the Premiers of Alberta and Saskatchewan during the meeting.

Read the letter.

The organizations are also placing an ad on Monday in the Casper Star-Tribune of Wyoming.
