Toxic Nation
| Pollution, It's in you! | Tell your friends |
Environmental Defence's Toxic Nation studies show that people across Canada , young and old, are polluted with a wide range of chemicals. Many of the chemicals are found in everyday products - furniture, TVs, food packaging, cleaning products and clothing. The chemicals have a range of potential health effects - cancer, developmental and reproductive damage, respiratory illnesses, hormone disruption and damage to the nervous system. Environmental Defence has completed three studies on toxic chemicals in Canadians' bodies. - First study : tested 11 adults from across the country for 88 chemicals . - Second study : tested children, parents and grandparents from five families for 68 chemicals. - Third study: tested four federal politicians for 103 chemicals Environmental Defence is currently testing three political leaders in Ontario : Premier Dalton McGuinty, Official Opposition Leader John Tory and NDP Leader Howard Hampton. Results will be made public in late June. The findings of all of Environmental Defence's studies demonstrate that toxic chemicals contaminate people no matter where they live, how old they are or what they do for a living.
